ELIZABETH RENZI HOUSE SCHOOL
In 1989 the "Casa di Formazione" (Education House) was
founded, where shelter is given for both children and women. The
Children are given education and the Women are taught domestic skills.
The school is run by an Italian Charitable organisation and supported
by members who work and look after the children. It a great compliment
to them that women and children attend the school, as this means
that they really trust the teachers.
The school's purpose is to help the children and their families
by offering an opportunity for a better education, to train them
to work so that they can have a better future, and by setting up
jobs so that they can be self-sufficient. The children that Elizabeth
Renzi House looks after belong to those families who on a daily
basis face a harsh existence in Dhaka. Their families may have arrived
in Dhaka as a result of flooding or the need for work. as occurs
often in rural Bangladesh. Many families who are struck down by
floods, lose everything, and move to the cities, in order to look
for a better standard of living; unfortunately, they often do not
find it.
When they reach the cities, they live in poor conditions, usually,
a hand-built house of corrugated iron and bamboo beside the streets
or on the banks of one of Dhaka's many lakes. It is to help the
children living in these circumstances that Elizabeth Renzi House
School was founded.
