In his writings, Tagore wrote of the value of education as learning and understanding all things in life. This goes beyond merely giving information as teaching. In our own small way the Irish Rovers are trying to help one school in Bangladesh make this possible for some children and their families. His quotation reminds us all of the things we should have as children. This is not always possible in developing countries such as Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is among the most densely populated countries in the world and among the poorest. There are many sources of information on the Internet and in research about poverty in Bangladesh - we would encourage you to find out more. We would also challenge the perceptions and conclusions that your reading might lead you to make. We have found the people here to dignified, hospitable and welcoming. This is humbling in he midst of extreme material poverty, which can only be imagined at home in Ireland.

The Irish Rovers Bangladesh is actively making a difference by assisting Elizabeth House School in Dhaka. The school makes a difference to the lives of more than 150 children who, otherwise, would not have the opportunity of education in a safe and caring environment, which many of us take as our right.

The Irish Rovers Bangladesh directly sponsors 30 Children in the school. This sponsorship helps the Children to learn in the traditional sense, in class, and, as Tagore said it should be, we have helped the Children to stumble upon everyday things and be surprised. In February 2006, we took 100 children from the school to a theme park in Dhaka for a few hours. An everyday thing for some but not for the Children at Elizabeth House School and as you might imagine - they loved it!
